Meet Dereck! Owner of Quiethouse
Meet our next Maker, Dereck! He is the owner of Quiethouse which is a private residential recording studio located 20 minutes from Boston, MA. In a relaxed environment they offer a nicely equipped studio for you to record and mix. They have a bunch of analog gear, a console, tubes and transformers, ProTools and Ableton Live, lots of amazing plugins, high end monitoring, and a ton of tea and coffee - in a room designed by Lou Clark of Sonic-Space.

ABOUT DEREK
Dereck Blackburn is a, consultant, recording engineer/producer, and multi-instrumentalist. He is an avid Ableton Live, ProTools, and iZotope RX user and Brand Evangelist. He has been a beta tester for iZotope, Avid, LiquidSonics, and Slate Digital. Dereck is a member of the Audio Engineering Society, and has served on the Executive Committee since 2014 and served as Secretary from 2016 to 2020. He is a founding member of Audio Builders Workshop, a non-profit organization focused on providing resources for entrepreneurs, educators, and music professionals who build audio gear. He has also been a featured speaker at AES Conventions, Music Expo, and regularly speaks to groups about issues affecting small business owners.
Dereck has spent 15 years as Producer and Engineer at his studio Quiethouse Recording in Bedford MA. Before this he was in a string of bands in and around the Midwest playing Guitar, Drums, and Synths. He started his love of recording as a teenager, regularly recording local bands live sets with a 4-track Tascam 424. Since then he has traveled halfway around the world to record music and collaborate with people as passionate about music and audio as he is.
His clients have included Imogen Heap, Sidewave, Husbands, Mint Green, and Windmills, among many others. He lists his mentors as Steve Albini, Sylvia Massey, and Alan Moulder - all engineers dedicated to the excellence of our craft.
Dereck lives above the studio with his family and a dog.
