Meet Joyce! Founder, HELPIS
Meet our next Maker, Joyce Deliyiannis! She is the founder of HELPIS based in Burlington, MA. Her team works to connect people in need with people and organizations who want to help. There are so many people in need, but there are also so many people who would love to help, but who don’t know how to make their contributions meaningful. That's where HELPIS comes in.
The idea of HELPIS all started one morning, not too long ago, when Joyce came up with an idea: to help people who had become unemployed due to the economic crisis by giving them free haircuts. She did what she does best and put her plan into action. The response from her clients, the salon, the mall, the town, the state and, apparently, the country has been positive and overwhelming.
This one simple act of giving has taken off, inspiring others to also give back. Joyce has been so impactful and changed so many lives. Her foundation even passed a law! HELPIS declared May a month of celebration of those who promote generosity and kindness. The mission of HELPIS is:
1) to encourage and promote good and charitable deeds by groups and individuals for the purpose of helping someone needing help, and
2) to create the first observation of HelpMeHelpSomeone celebration, a spirit of sharing during May giving help and saluting those who promote generosity and kindness.
