206 oxbow road, wayland

The edward sherman house, circa 1755

This masterpiece will steal your heart! For you historic home lovers, prepare to be in awe! All of the character is in intact, however, none of the perceived "old house headaches" are present as this beauty was moved to her new foundation in 2001. A truly seamless blend of the character we love and covet in a New England home, yet the roof, siding, many windows and all systems newer! A rear addition was carefully added, but it feels as if it's always been there- quite remarkable! These extensive renovations allowed the home to be opened up, leaving the massive timber beams exposed in places, and allowing the kitchen to be the heart of the home. This space will draw in any chef, featuring Crown Point cabinetry, soapstone and wood counters. The appliances do not disappoint with a Wolf gas range, Sub-Zero fridge, electric wall oven, Bosch dishwasher, and a walk-in pantry. Adjacent is the family room, with cozy fireplace (one of 6!) and French doors leading to one of our favorite spots - the lovely screened in porch, offering views of the beautiful gardens and custom barn.

The private yard abuts conservation land and is enhanced by lovely herb gardens and a custom water feature, nicely enjoyed from the porch and brick patio. The barn was rebuilt on the original footprint and offers a multitude of opportunities - space for a workshop and all of your hobbies and toys. The walk up second level is perfect for storage or would be a great spot for a totally separate and private home office.

Back inside the house, you will enjoy some practical yet ingenious custom features, such as the mudroom with laundry, brick floor, and dog washing station! And the two-bay garage which is almost too nice to park cars in! It is heated and has hot and cold water and a drain in the floor. No expense was spared on the important systems either - the gas heat is powered by a Viessmann boiler, and is a combination of radiant and radiators; there is high-velocity central air in most of the house with the exception of a few rooms at the front.  The roof was redone in 2001 and most of the windows are newer. The home has a 200 amp electric service with a special "Holiday lights" breaker - what thought and detailed planning went into this home!

There are 6 fireplaces throughout the home, and all have been redone as a part of the renovation and expansion. The master bedroom has its' own warming Vermont Castings gas insert. This stunning space evokes the feeling of a gorgeous bed and breakfast with the private deck on which to sip your morning coffee or evening wine, and the beautiful bathroom featuring custom tile shower and double soapstone vanity.

We can envision many holidays and gatherings here at 206 Oxbow, year round. Thanksgiving is perfectly hosted in the dining room with unique murals inspired by the renowned artist of the day Rufus Porter, with guests heading up to the Great Room to watch the big game. The private, large yard beckons for summer soirees, taking advantage of the screened-in porch on those buggy nights! To think you can have it all - historical home charm with today's amenities - all at 206 Oxbow, Wayland.
